40 Days of Prayer
   March 23, 2004

We Must Do What Jesus said!
(part 6)

“…the workers are few”
“…(ask God) to send out workers into His harvest.
“…Jesus sent them out…”
(see Matt 9:37-38; 10:1-5)

First, we prayed that God would help us see the harvest. Then, we started following the instructions of Jesus: praying that He will SEND OUT workers into His harvest. Now, we have to ask: “will we go where Jesus says go?”

In the next chapter Matthew records that Jesus summoned His disciples (Matt. 10:1), gave them instructions and sent them out. Do we believe that God could send us?

Here’s the progression:

1. See what Jesus sees—multitude with empty hearts.
2. Do what Jesus said do—pray that God will send workers.
3. Go where Jesus says go—He sent them out.

As He sent them, He gave them many instructions (see Matt 10). He told them to:
>be sensitive
>meet people where they hurt
>don’t force yourself on them
>speak peace to those who receive you
>walk away from those who reject you
>be wise as serpents and harmless as doves

He also said, “don’t worry about what you will say; for it shall be given you in that hour what you are to speak. For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” (see Matt. 10:19-20)
How do these instructions impact us today?

Father,
Send me into Your harvest. I will go where You say to go and conduct myself as a living representative of Jesus the Christ.
Spirit of the Living God…speak through me!
I pray in Jesus’ Name, Amen
